PRIVACY POLICY

This Privacy Policy explains how Bit Bot Media LLC and its subsidiary Mecanimal Games SRL (together, “Bit Bot,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collect, use, share, and protect personal information in connection with the video game KNOCK OFF: THE BATTLE FOR IMAGINATION™, including any demo version (the “Game”); the website at https://www.knockoffthegame.com (the “Website”); and our official community channels and support communications (together with the Game and the Website, the “Services”).

This Privacy Policy should be read together with the Knock Off End User License Agreement. By using the Services, you acknowledge that your information will be handled as described here. If you do not agree with this Privacy Policy, please do not use the Services.

  1. Who We Are

Bit Bot Media LLC is responsible for the personal information processed under this Privacy Policy. For the purposes of data protection laws such as the EU General Data Protection Regulation and the UK General Data Protection Regulation, Bit Bot Media LLC is the controller of that information. Mecanimal Games SRL, our subsidiary in the Dominican Republic, helps develop and operate the Game and may process personal information on our behalf and under our direction.

  1. Information We Collect

Information you give us. When you contact us for support, send us feedback or bug reports, sign up for news or updates, or take part in surveys or playtests, we collect the information you choose to provide. This may include your name, email address, Steam display name, the content of your messages, and any screenshots, videos, or log files you attach.

Information from Steam and other platforms. When you play the Game through Steam or another platform, that platform shares certain information with us so the Game can work. On Steam, this typically includes your Steam ID, your Steam display name, and confirmation that you have access to the Game. Where the Game uses platform features such as friend invites, lobbies, achievements, or stats, we may also receive information needed for those features, such as your avatar or which of your platform friends also play the Game. We do not receive your payment card details. Any purchases are processed by the platform under its own terms and privacy policy.

Information collected automatically when you play. When you use the Game, we automatically collect certain technical and gameplay information. This may include device and system information (such as hardware specifications, operating system, graphics settings, language, and Game version); network information needed for online play (such as your IP address, connection quality, and an approximate region derived from your IP address); gameplay information (such as matches played, characters and stages selected, match results, rankings, session length, settings, and in-game events); crash reports and error logs; and information used to detect cheating, exploits, and tampering with the Game.

Information collected on our Website. When you visit the Website, our servers and service providers may automatically record information such as your IP address, browser type, device type, pages visited, referring page, and the date and time of your visit. We may use cookies and similar technologies to operate the Website, remember your preferences, and understand how visitors use it.

Information from community channels. If you interact with us on Steam discussions, Discord, social media, or other community platforms, we may see the content you post and the profile information those platforms make available, depending on your settings on those platforms.

Information we do not seek. The Services are not designed to collect sensitive information such as health information, precise geolocation, or government identification numbers, and we ask that you not send us such information.

  1. How We Use Information

We use personal information for the following purposes:

To provide and operate the Game, including online matchmaking, connecting you with other players, saving your settings and progress, and displaying rankings and leaderboards.

To keep play fair and safe, including detecting, investigating, and preventing cheating, exploits, fraud, and abuse, and enforcing the End User License Agreement.

To fix and improve the Game, including diagnosing crashes and bugs, measuring performance, balancing characters and gameplay, and using what we learn from the demo and from player feedback to develop the full release.

To support and communicate with you, including responding to support requests and feedback, sending service-related messages, and, where you have agreed or where the law otherwise allows, sending news and updates about the Game. You can unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time.

To protect our rights and comply with the law, including maintaining the security of the Services, meeting legal obligations, and establishing, exercising, or defending legal claims.

We may also create aggregated or de-identified information that does not identify you, and use it for any lawful purpose, such as understanding which characters are most popular.

Our systems may automatically flag activity that appears to involve cheating. Where this leads to a restriction on your access, you can contact us to ask for a review.

  1. Legal Bases for Processing (EEA and UK Players)

If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, we rely on the following legal bases. We process information as necessary to perform our contract with you, which is the End User License Agreement, so that we can provide the Game you choose to play. We rely on our legitimate interests to secure the Services, prevent cheating, understand how the Game is used, and improve it, balanced against your rights and interests. We rely on your consent for marketing emails and for non-essential cookies, and you can withdraw your consent at any time. We also process information where needed to comply with a legal obligation.

  1. How We Share Information

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for targeted advertising. We share personal information only as described below.

With other players. When you play online, other players can see information such as your Steam display name, character selections, match results, and rankings.

With Steam and other platforms. We exchange information with Valve and other platform providers as needed to operate platform features such as matchmaking, achievements, and stats.

With service providers. We use trusted companies to help us run the Services, such as providers of hosting, game servers, analytics, crash reporting, customer support, and email. They may use personal information only to provide services to us and must protect it.

Within our corporate group. We share information between Bit Bot Media LLC and Mecanimal Games SRL as needed to develop and operate the Game.

For legal and safety reasons. We may disclose information if we believe it is required by law or legal process, or needed to protect the rights, property, or safety of Bit Bot, our players, or others.

In a business transfer. If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, or sale of assets, personal information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this Privacy Policy.

With your consent. We may share information in other ways when you ask us to or agree that we may.

  1. International Transfers

We are based in the United States, our subsidiary is based in the Dominican Republic, and our service providers may operate in other countries. As a result, your information may be processed in countries whose data protection laws differ from those where you live. Where we transfer personal information from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, we use appropriate safeguards, such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses or an applicable adequacy decision.

  1. How Long We Keep Information

We keep personal information only for as long as we need it for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy. In deciding how long to keep information, we consider how long we need it to provide the Game and its online features, respond to support requests, investigate cheating and enforce our terms, and meet legal, accounting, and security requirements. When we no longer need personal information, we delete it or de-identify it. Data collected through a demo may be kept to help us develop and improve the full release, and is then deleted or de-identified when no longer needed for that purpose.

  1. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect personal information from loss, misuse, and unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. No system is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee the security of information transmitted to us.

  1. Children

The Services are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, or under the higher minimum age that applies in your country. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take steps to delete it.

  1. Your Rights and Choices

Choices for all players. You can unsubscribe from marketing emails using the link in any such email. You can manage what your platform shares with games through your Steam or other platform privacy settings, and you can control cookies through your browser settings. You can also contact us at any time to ask what information we hold about you or to ask us to delete it.

EEA and UK players. Subject to applicable law, you have the right to access your personal information, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to our processing of it (including processing based on our legitimate interests), receive a copy in a portable format, and withdraw consent where we rely on consent. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

United States players. Depending on the state where you live, you may have rights to know, access, correct, and delete personal information we hold about you, to obtain a copy of it, and to opt out of the sale of personal information, targeted advertising, and certain profiling. As stated above, we do not sell personal information or use it for targeted advertising. If we deny your request, you may appeal by replying to our decision. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.

How to make a request. To exercise your rights, contact us using the details in Section 13 and include “Privacy Request” in the subject line. We may need to verify your identity before acting on your request, for example by confirming control of your email address or Steam account. You may use an authorized agent where the law allows. We will respond within the time required by applicable law.

  1. Third-Party Services

The Services may link to or operate alongside services we do not control, such as Steam, Discord, and social media platforms. Those services collect and use information under their own privacy policies, and we encourage you to review them.

  1. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will post the updated version on the Website and change the effective date above. If we make material changes, we will provide notice as required by applicable law, for example through the Website, the Game, or our platform store page.
